And that's the problem with these organizations. I saw an article a while ago that vets today are more likely to join fitness clubs, charity groups, etc. instead of a bar where people trade war stories and smoke cigars.

Part of that problem is most of them discount today's veterans, and make their achievements seem small. I have the utmost respect for Vietnam vets, but there's a portion of them that think that their shitty experiences are the only ones that count.

The other side of the coin is that social clubs in general are going by the wayside. The VFW, Masons, and Knights of Columbus just don't have the sway they used to since it's so easy to be social in other ways. The VFW and American Legion need to do more in welcoming present day vets and portraying a more active role in the community.

Hey Max, big fan since 2012 and currently an active duty Marine.

What steps do you think we could take, as a military and veteran community, to curb the high rate of suicide, both in uniform and afterwards?

Also, thanks a lot for being a rational voice in a community that often has knee jerk reactions to stuff. Always look forward to new strips and blog posts!
