Except, in those shows, the guy is funny and likable, and the wife is just the forgettable straightman. The guy is the star, the woman is just a foil. Would you hang out with the guy character or the wife? The answer is never the wife.

It's also way easier to do on one-way streets than two-way streets. You can't really green-wave both directions on a two-way unless the spacing is just right. Some streets have an expected heavier traffic direction for morning vs evening rush, so you can optimize that direction though. But for a good example of really effective one-way green waves, look at New York City. In medium traffic you can just cruise up Amsterdam Ave and it's a beautiful thing.

DC people do kind of suck, though. Loads of people who think they are soooooo important because of who they have shook hands with. They feel they are so savvy that they can manipulate rules and officials to their petty ends. If you have a problem with a neighbor, you call CPS or the zoning board to run them around.

When I grew up in DC, it was mostly military folk and the few old timers were clearly southerners. Totally different place than now. The local city government was a joke, but it still had a thriving local music culture: Punk, funk, gogo. But the district is fucking smug and soulless now, I could not bear to live their anymore.
