Does using castor oil 1-2 times a week on your follicles actually do anything...it seems to be all over the internet as a great way to thicken your hair but I'm unsure if it's merely the way your hair looks with oil in the hair.
If it does help, can you recommend the right way to use it?

But this is like saying Mozart only played instruments all day and look at him (I have no idea if that's all he did but you get the point). Not every kid is gonna be Mozart. Many kids who grow up in this screen oriented era will end up not doing much with it besides wasting their time. I'm very concerned with the dopamine effect that screens and screen time provides, it's more than just "those dang kids and their video games".

My kids are becoming very addicted to internet RPGs and YouTubers. I'm worried. What should I do?

No, I never said don't give them an instrument. I said I wouldn't let them only do that. You're taking things to the extreme. And you said yourself these kids aren't coding, they are watching streams. This is a world of difference and it's exactly what I'm talking about. If my kid said dad I'm learning Ubuntu right now, I might be inclined to let her stay on longer. But my 7 year old isn't coding, she's watching mindless YouTubers do asinine stunts.
