Neither is he. He did mention it, but when your pay is significantly lower than the national average its obviously a topic of interest. Personally I don't agree that he should be paid any higher, but I get the feeling he may think the same way.

I'm adjunct faculty and have a second job where I make a considerably large income. I choose to teach because I enjoy it and while the extra paycheck is nice I could easily live without it.

Just to weigh in, I'm in an adjunct position and I only have my masters (I teach finance and economics courses). I teach at a smaller school with an acceptance rate (last I checked) hovering around 70%. We also boast pretty small class sizes and don't use TA's.
I've never discussed it with anyone, but I would assume part of the reason is that if you don't offer doctorates at your institution, then you don't have access to the labor pool you were part of.
