When I was a child I went through phases of obsession. Most were pretty standard -- Egypt, dinosaurs, the Middle Ages -- and some weren't -- serial killers, edible wild plants, medical anomalies. Did you have any notable childhood (or current) obsessions?

You know, you're the first person to actually reply to a question of mine in an AMA, anywhere. As a token of my gratitude, please take these two posts from one of my favorite subs, /r/hobbydrama; both feature tales from the wild world of taxidermy hobbyists and bone collecting on the internet, and hopefully will be at least mildly entertaining to you.

Also one time when I was twelve I found a little shop in Kansas City, MO that sold science-themed kits and such for children. I was with my hyperreligious aunt who homeschooled her kids, and she was far from thrilled when I further discovered the HUGE selection of animal skeletons in the back of the shop. I was dragged out, and I don't recall the name or location of the shop, but sometimes I remember the delicate ribs and needle teeth of the little dead things and mourn the obsession that never was.
