My mom plays at the Casino quite a bit in Niagara Falls, USA; we live on the Canadian side. She's been going back and forth with the CRA and the IRS for about 8 months now over collecting the rest of her winnings.

She won around $1800;

She got to keep $1000 and walk away with it, but had to submit forms to the IRS to collect the other 800...

Another time, she won about $1080;

Same deal - can keep 1000 and file for the rest. It took over 6 months to get $80, and they added interest because it took so long... To a total of $96.. lol.

So all in all... Not very difficult. But a lot of back and forth sometimes and prepare to wait a while before you see the rest!
