The 23rd pair is X and X for females and X and Y for males. You can have uneven numbers(or even fractions) of chromosomes if things go wrong during meiosis, the numbers to the left of the Xs and Ys are the total number of chromosomes that someone can have that will cause different degrees of intersexuality.
