What was it like working with someone as startlingly handsome as James D'Amato?

What are you feelings on the industry springing up around the industry? Specifically things like podcasts and video streams of play? There are many folks who experience RPGs these days exclusively by watching other people play them.

Your best bet is to be wary of the average damage a monster can put out by paying attention to the dice you are rolling. There are many balanced monsters in 3rd.

If you really want a system that is less clunky I would recommend checking out 13th Age. It's very much John and Rob doing a take two on their respective approaches to D&D. They take the best ideas of both and put them together.
