I suspect you did something interesting to make that happen. My 560 and the recent 780 Ti (top of the consumer line...) perform amazingly well and apt-get must have been put into some condition if you messed about with package locking and whatnot.

Yeah... don't install drivers from nvidia yourself if you don't know what you're doing. Use the PPA's instead - there is one that has the 331.20 packaged for you.
