There is some violence, not alot at all, mostly from highly religious people trying to force others to behave like they want to, but there alot of non religious people and being an atheist is very common here. Just dont go around eating pork in front of the western wall and you most likely wont have a problem. I did feel some environmental pressure to "believe in god" as a kid but i dont at all now. If anything, you have a better chance to get a good job if you are not religious. Most very religious people here (orthodox) are highly uneducated and have problems fitting in the work force since they dont learn math sience and english in their schools... However, there is no public transport at all on friday night and satrudays because of religious reasons, you cant properly get married in a non religious ceremony, they also teach judaism in schools.. as an atheist, its getting worse to be honest

Do you think there should not be any countries based on religion? I am from israel, and we have a big problem separating religion and state. It is a called a jewish-democracy, and there is alot of friction between religious people and atheists here. On the one hand, we are a democracy (though it dosent feel like that sometimes..) and on the other hand, this really is the only country for jewish people to be without encountaring antisemitism. What do you think about this situation?
