When you're an undocumented immigrant, particularly before the advent of "sanctuary cities", you are reluctant to ask the police for help and thus become easily exploitable. Then you create an ad-hoc organization for protection, but that group becomes a gang and becomes a greater threat to your safety and security.

This is exactly why we have sanctuary cities- because most illegal immigrants are harmless, but when they lose access to traditional law enforcement because they fear deportation they are vulnerable to exploitation and often feel they have no choice but to seek justice outside of the government.

At the same time, law enforcement loses access to them, potentially their best source for information on the gang activity. Without sanctuary cities, you can forget about ever getting MS-13 under control, which is why every major city is a sanctuary city, why most law enforcement organizations support them, and yet another reason why Donald Trump is a fucking idiot.

How is that surprising? Religions tend to be exclusive of other religions, so naturally a believer would argue that theirs is the one true religion, while an atheist is not going to see any religion as true.
