That's pretty pessimistic - you shaped a generation of rock-with-a-darker-aesthetic and were pretty wildly successful.
I'm pretty floored by your humbleness in this AMA.

Your album was a slap in the face when I first heard it. It doesn't sound like anything else I know of, but even though it challenged my brain, it was immediately comfortable. I didn't quite have my head around it until a few listens around the tracks!
Can you go over your drum kit pieces for us? I really like your sound throughout the album, it's unique.

That's a musical sleight-of-hand, not all of those songs use those chords or even that chord structure, but the chords being played are in the same key so the melody fits over it.
Any musician sees that and eye rolls at it. It's a bit of fun, but it isn't true. Yes, a ton of pop songs use a major chord progression, and the intervals mean there aren't a ton of total chords possible, so stuff like D-A-Bm-G is prevalent (or the same progression transposed up or down in key). No, they aren't all "the same chords". They're just all usually major or minor keys so the chords fit a few permutations.

This is so sane I had to double check what website I was on. Amazing legislation suggestion. Subsidizing gun safes should be no problem for Democrats, right?
