It seems like a large part of the cost of running a paper is paying delivery people. The USPS also is continually running in the red. As newspapers can't compete with the immediacy of cable news and the internet, could newspaper shift to mail delivery for more local focused news at the expense of broader national coverage?

That's fine. I was just curious if any organizations have statistics relevant to this. I heard about this a few weeks ago from a college friend, but this actually seems kind of awesome the more I think about it.
edit: By "this" I mean the attendant pumping in Oregon.
