Really, this situation might be the best chance for improving Kurdish international relations and for their future as a potential independent nation. Taking on ISIS is really putting 'Kurdistan' on the map.

Protecting the Yazidi (who are basically thought of as devil-/snake-worshipers by everyone else in the region if I'm not mistaken) is a great move. The western public basically automatically support Kurdish interests now and politicians have to follow suit. Turkey will undoubtedly be difficult as always concerning the Kurds but eh, enemy-of-my-enemy stuff is going on everywhere now with IS being such a phenomenally Evil enemy.

Peshmerga disposition was terrible at the start of this, it's honestly more a question of troop possitioning than supplies. 'Ammo shortage' has been an acceptable excuse for tactical retreats by forces in the middle east since the 1930s - "Our brave troops would have fought to the death, but you can't expect them to stay there if they lack the requirements to fight!" It's certainly a bit of an embarrassment but isn't likely to repeat itself.

You're certainly right that there could be some trouble if noone but the Kurds were fighting, but things are looking pretty good support-wise.

Do you have any idea how many Yazidi there actually are, and what is likely to happen to them as they are granted passage away from IS held territories?
