Yes, the patients are exaggerated. Usually it's a normal dude who had a bad day and found himself locked up with no charges. I've been in the psychiatric prisons and never encountered a lurking horror.

How do you justify involuntary committent in the face of a constition expressly prohibiting that? And how are sleep deprivation, drugging, beating and torture considered medical treatment? It just left me with a nasty case of PTSD.
Edit: I'd also like to know how anyone could feel safe entering one of these facilities giving a high risk of arrest and assault by staff. Wouldn't abolishing section 12 lead to more people seeking treatment?
Edit2: about the time they started beating my wife, we had a situation so it also left me with a lovely criminal case.

So, when I first heard this story, you were dismissed for underground fighting. Why is this story back and why is it different from the original narrative?
