9 years clean from a years long IV heroin & cocaine addiction, recently tapered off of replacement therapy. Found cannabis immensely helpful during the last few mg, even days after using it.
In my experience, Addicts are taught in 12 steps as well as clinical settings the disease model of addiction and that any non-medically sanctioned use of any psychoactive substance is a relapse that will bring back all the same addictive behaviors.
Haven't found this to be the case in the months since being opioid free, and have used cannabis a few times a month without cravings for any drugs or for more cannabis.
What's more current research say about the disease model?
