I used to make the case to students that John von Neumann was the father of the computer: not just because of the von Neumann architecture, but also because he was a well-respected public figure who proselytized for investment in computer technology: often to people in the upper echelons of power. Any anecdotes you could share that might make that case to the people of Reddit?
