Where were you born? I have a friend from Russia that was born without her right arm. Maybe you two could team up.

That's crazy! She lives in Iowa now. I think her missing arm was due to the nuclear pollution after Chernobyl.

Medicare covers donor evaluations but we still bill the recipient’s insurance for the actual transplant. This is why we urge our patients with private insurance to still pick up Medicare. It might cost $170+ a month in premiums but in ensures your donor is covered and you receive immunosuppressant coverage.

Additionally, corporate dialysis centers like Davita will lie to their dialysis patients about Medicare. I have had 20+ patients in the last three years tell me their dialysis center told them Medicare will not cover transplants. These patients are basically forced to keep their employer sponsored coverage through COBRA under the guise that this is the only option. They are then signed up for the American Kidney Fund to pay for their insurance premium so that they can keep the COBRA coverage. This is so the dialysis center can get paid better. Medicare/Medicaid pays significantly less than commercial/private insurance. They are wasting money that should go to people who actually need it to pad their wallets.

I’m a Transplant Financial Coordinator in the Midwest. I have my certification through the Transplant Financial Coordinators Association and have been doing this for three years. If there are any questions about insurance coverage for transplants, I’m down to answer them.

Hmm, that would be weird but kinda cool. I read a further comment that he was adopted-my friend was also adopted.

I’ve had patients come in for listing and they are looking to get their 3rd, 4th or 5th kidney. I don’t think there is a limit unless your body can no longer handle it.
