You sound exceptionally intelligent, especially given the fields you choose to study. Do you know or believe that this is something that has developed due to your deafblindness, or in spite of it?

I’d say that their value is minimal, but the loss of value to customers comes from the fact they aren’t owned by the manufacturers. The manufacturer gets to sell wholesale cars to dealership groups, who in turn handle all the hassle, expense of retail locations and staffing. The dealer gets a small cut of the car so the makers aren’t losing out much, and historically the customer was able to come in and check cars out, and ultimately make a decision of what’s for them.

Now we have the advent of the Tesla model where people can buy direct (and online) which appeals to the younger generation buyer in line with their habits. We also have the internet so lots of people do their research on potential models, watch non-bias video reviews and learn a lot more before stepping foot in a dealership.

So now, most people’s dealership experience is basically walking in and having to fight for a good deal, coupled with shitty sales tactics like making you sit around waiting for hours and trying to tack on all sorts of crap to the deal, makes for a generally unpleasant experience.

IMO, the days of the dealership are numbered as some brands are already allowing online orders, and larger used car groups like CarMax and Carvana were forced to adopt this through Covid, so it will become the expectation.

I hate dealerships

Follow up question, do you think being intelligent helped you to cope/overcome? Or would most people with your condition be able to adapt to their circumstances with modern technology etc?

(Sorry for the ignorance, I've never met or learned much about deafblind people)
