Will it be less painful after 6 months because it then no longer has to move the bones but rather hold them in place?

Glad to hear you are using little trees to start the process. I imagine that many seeds don't actually grow and turn into trees, so that would be quite depressing for those still alive and witnessing it.

How many of those little trees don't grow and in case one doesn't, do you get a second chance / tree?
