Sounds like he was in some trouble as a young man and just lost his way. Perhaps no one cared for him the way you might care for your patients. I feel deep angry and abandonment issues when I meet peoples parents. I was adopted, and quite frequently growing up I would lash out at people talking about their parents. Thats what this sounds like to me imo.
