Where do you get $70k for an Olympic Training cycle? Is the Olympics only open to rich/connected people?

I'm wondering...I know it's really popular to attack earmarks, but it seems like since earmarks have been eliminated, there's been even more partisan gridlock. Do you think that perhaps earmarks were the grease that helped make Congress work?
