It's more like hanging out on the train tracks while drunk. These are big, navigable rivers. There are towboats pushing barges that can't exactly maneuver around drunks in little boats. Nobody wants to be responsible for pulling your dead body out of the water when it pops up between barges. And that does happen

That's great. I'd assumed that you probably had some sense about you if you've made more than one trip down a big river. I was more concerned about people like u/bigtunatim who are under the impression that drunk boating is no big deal.

River people are almost always really cool as long as you aren't being a pest. And respect that there are a lot of people out there trying to earn their living. Luckily I never had to pull a body out of the river, but I know people who have, and it's almost always drunk people in small boats.
