You're getting scammed bigtime. I've been in China for 6 years and I know people who have worked as private English/French/Spanish teachers for the uber rich (live in, 20 hours work week including bringing them and fetching the kids from school). The 2 people I knew both had a car at their disposal, 1.5 days off a week, flights reimbursed (of course) and at LEAST 25,000 yuan a month.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that of course the biggest problem is the work visa. Even rich people with lots of guanxi would have a hard time obtaining one for a nanny without a middleman. It's not impossible to get around though.

Hey chica. Let me give you the quck rundown on chugging baijiu. I still use this method, even after 6 years here, for the first couple of rounds. After that your tastebuds are burned off, and the method can be discarded. Here goes: Breathe in, take a gulp of baijiu (or as I like to call it, drain cleaner), immediately exhale through your mouth. Inhale again through the nose, and exhale from the mouth. This way you'll avoid most of the smell and taste. Try it, it really helps.

Sounds like the police here in China, I've seen HUGE rows over seemingly small things and the average Chinese is definitely not afraid to stand up for himself, especially if he senses backup from the crowd (rubbernecking is the national sport here).
