From reading this, my only thought is that you and your wife are living in a warm, fuzzy, happy bubble - and it will eventually pop - exactly like credit card debt. What you are doing - what those books encouraged you to do - is exactly the same trap as credit card debt IMO. A no money down, rent-to-own scheme. And you fell for it. I'm sorry to say it, but that's what I think your situation is.

I get the whole 'enjoy life while you can at your age' thing - and you earned a break after working hard and raising a family, no issue with that.

But, unless your business ventures earn you a lot of money at some point in the next 12 months, 'dinner on the beach' is not going to taste as good or you're going to get food poisoning or have some injury - and you will need more money than you have now to work out of the situation.

Based on what I'm seeing, what's coming sooner or later is that when y'all are too old or too broke to live like you are - when you find yourself waiting anxiously for hours by the MoneyGram station or trying to cash a PayPal payment from one of your sons for more 'dinner on the beach' you will realize the party is over.

Soon after that, you will be arriving at the airport in the US with the plan to live with one of your sons "until you get settled", i.e., permanently. You will be "vagabonding" between your sons homes as they struggle and argue among themselves as to how best to care for you. Good luck with that.

Small and medium sized farms DO need support: know how much diesel fuel is costing? How we're drowning in DEC CAFO regulations? Why do we have to live in fear of ICE when we pay our Hispanic guys $9-10/hr and take out all NYS and federal taxes. No Anglo is going to milk cows on the night shift and do anything approaching a quality job.

Find a way to separate out the corporate give-aways but support small and medium NY farmers!
