I went to Montreal over Memorial Day weekend and the customs guy literally laughed at me for going to another country over a holiday weekend. I was like dude it's an hour flight. It's faster than driving to Connecticut.

I remember a few years ago I was coming back from Brazil right after Carnaval and on the way in the guy was checking my passport, and asked where I'd gone and why. I said Brazil, for Carnaval. He hesitated and then quietly said, "Was it fun? I always wanted to go...."

What kinds of WTF moments did you have?

Yeah it was really sweet. I hope he does too, Carnaval is a blast. I try to go every year to the one in Recife.

Yeah my female Omani friends have no such restrictions... it could be that her dad is just a dick, but that's really not a thing there. Oman isn't a regressive place.

Edit: It also makes no sense at all that her parents would be totally okay with hermaphroditism (most people don't even understand what this is, let alone be totally chill about it) and a sex change operation, and changing her gender presentation and giving her a new female name and all this shit, and then being so ultra-conservative as to not allow her to go outside alone and drive? Which again as I said is not a thing in Omani society.

At any real altitude water is just as bad to hit as solid ground.

She's also repeating a lot of kind of rote negative stereotypes about Islamic societies that don't really hold true in Oman at all. I'm very suspicious.
