Tbh, I think that these visions are basically hypoxic dreams the mind stirs up when either dying or coming to right after experiencing something traumatic.

I want to be wrong about that, but hypoxic dreams are definitely an observable phenomena in other areas, such as in GLOC dreams experienced by fighter pilots.
