How has your loss smell affected your taste? Like, do you still taste a full range of flavours or only the five basic tastes; bitter, sour, sweet, salt and umami (not many people have heard of umami it's hard to describe but it's basically savory).

You've said you have struggled with belief but favor atheism if this is the case have you looked (pun not intended) into humanism? I don't know if that's a thing in the USA but I'd think it is. There are many definitions and types of humanism but Urban Dictionary actually has quite a good one; it defines a humanist as "Someone who is explicitly concerned about the welfare and morality of other humans. Generally, humanists are not religious and do not believe in the fictitious teachings of any supposed deity. In this way humanists are commonly atheists and find fulfillment through analytical reasoning and scientific methods. Humanists are thus commonly evolutionists. "
