Very cool sir. I waited until my 30's then hit the road. I traveled for about 6 years, but only through 18 countries, and ended up staying in some for more than a year at a time. I'm back to work now charging up the account again, but those are the fondest memories I have. Best wishes and safe travels.

I'm sure you know the important stuff by now, like keeping a low profile in poor countries. So I'll try to reflect on some of the lesser known ideas I came back with..

Do not get trapped by a girl/guy who just wants to go to a rich country. As you know, being a Westerner, people will treat you like a celebrity in some parts of the world. Women will use sex as a weapon, be careful. Spend time in one place really getting to know people, learn the language, and make life-long friends. Be adventurous but stay out of places where kidnapping is a problem. Consider spending more than a year in one place, maybe with a friend. Get to know it, the culture, the language before moving on.

Your life is already better than 90% of the world. Appreciate your good fortune. Happy thanksgiving. :)
