The rule I go with is if the name of the country has an "e" in it (Ireland, United States of America) they spell it with an "e." Scotland and Canada do not have an "e" in their names and they spell it Whisky.

This is something I've always wondered about life/duty on submarines.

How can you guys tell what part of the day it is? Especially when it was a time before ubiquitous cell phones, did the Navy make sure everybody had a watch, or did you just have to trust the guy telling you its time for breakfast?

I recently took an introductory class on economics and on the first day my professor said that economists have to assume that people are rational and will act in their own best interests in order for economists to make predictions. Dan Ariely wrote a book called Predictably Irrational, where he finds that people are not only irrational, but consistently so, which leads to my question. As a behavioral economist, have you ever encountered something where people's irrationality have ruined your predictions, or you have had to ignore entire studies because the assumption that people are rational is not always correct?
