Do you see the irony in using FIFA as an example of accountability?

It doesn't need to be as serious as is being implied here. For one thing, doing 500 miles beforehand would be half the length of the UK. When I set off on my first trip, UK>Italy, I'd cycled about 50 miles in the last decade, and had just bought the cheapest bike I could find in Halfords - about £100. I'd recommend against that (fair few things broke) but the point is pretty much any bike will work, but may differ in comfort. I'd recommend buying used because you'll get a lot more 'bike per pound.'

Clipless pedals aren't a must - I personally would recommend against, some are for. For me, I prefer to wear shoes I can also walk around in if I decide to spend some time off the bike. I didn't bother with the full spandex, but cycling shorts at least are quite important (and, as said, they're designed to go without underwear).

The UK is pretty small and, obviously, civilised. You can pretty much just "jump on some sort of bike and set off." You'll hardly be stranded in the wilderness even if something does go wrong.

I'm from South Wales as well, by the way! South West Wales for me and if where you live is anything like where I'm from, cycling there will be great training. It's very hilly.

Finally I'd recommend checking out /r/bicycletouring for this sort of thing.

Hey there, congrats on the game release! Hope this AMA gets you some good publicity.

My question is about financing. You've talked about it being important to have the money to carry through the project, which makes sense. I imagine the salary of two people was a big expense in your case but beyond that, what were you spending money on?

The reason I ask is that I'll be travelling by bicycle for a few months and I've been thinking of stuff to do in the tent at night. I'd been thinking about writing and/or trying to try my hand at basic game dev stuff, and this AMA seemed a good place to ask a question :)

Yeah that post answers my question very well, thanks! You said though that you'd expect to spend a lot on different devices if developing for mobile - wouldn't you just use emulators? I've only developed for Android so far but the emulators there seemed to work well, and by all accounts iOS ones are even better.
