Hi! It's nice to see other people with this condition! My daughter has unilateral Iris coloboma but bilateral retinal colobomas. She's 3.5!

In the pictures she's looking at the camera. Her pupils are permanently fixed in that position. If her colobomas are anything like my daughters they won't dilate or constrict much, if at all, when exposed to light or dark.

That is so interesting! My daughters right eye does not dilate or constrict noticeably. If you are a physician you would see a response but it's not normal. Once we had to call an ambulance and I saw a flash of panic when the EMT opened her eye to check the pupillary response. I had to explain that the response she showed was normal.
We only learned of the coloboma when she was two months old after an open heart surgery. She had never really opened her eyes her first two months. She was a sick little one. Anytime they would attempt to examine her eyes she would go into distress so it wasn't worth it. After being on bypass they open the eyes to check for normal response and that's when we discovered the coloboma.

My daughter had "damage control" surgery on her heart. I will agree with you that it's an incredible technique, because she should not be alive, and she is.
Not only is she alive, but she is alive and well.
Also, I think that deep hypothermia is pretty interesting too.
