It’s important to note that lithium levels in the tissues like brain/kidneys/liver can be much higher than serum level. So lots of docs will run a serum level, look at a 1.4 and say it’s fine, when in reality that person is chronically overdosing on lithium. Also if you’re on lithium be careful about blood pressure pills. Lithium outcompetes sodium in the kidney, and lots of BP meds work by making people lose more sodium (and thus water) into the urine, the body notices this and tries to take back more sodium in another place in the kidney. But lithium is more favored in that transporter so more lithium comes back and it can build up quickly.
