There was also the panel where they let an anti-vaxxer say whatever she wanted to in the name of "there's two sides to every story". There was also the one where they insulted a woman so much that she left the show during a commercial break.

There are a lot of good segments, but even the most vapid one-on-one celebrity interviews on The Daily Show or Colbert, I can stand those. I really stuck with TNS last year but some of those panels were straight up insulting to watch and I haven't been back since, unfortunately.

Pro here: the hours thing isn't what is important, but the efficiency of the time spent practicing. Try to stick to around 15 minutes per topic, 8 topics per 2-hour block, with at least an hour off before you go in for another chunk. Always play with a metronome. Use a practice journal and document everything. 15 minutes a day of scales is far more efficient than 2 hours a day. Your brain can only take so much repetitive information. Shorter bursts over time works well and also keeps us from just getting bored. For trumpet technique stuff in particular, spend as much time resting as playing.

Exactly. What's worse is that the Oliver piece came out right around the Nightly Show panel, which put it into perspective. And speaking of Last Week Tonight, he did a very solid piece on the death penalty, very nuanced and respectful, and only a few weeks later TNS did a death penalty panel where they basically just said "put people to death who gives a shit." It was insane.

With how many people of color are arrested, tried, convicted, and smashed through a broken justice system, including some who have been put to death or at least sentences to death (Scottsboro Boys come to mind for me, I'm sure everyone else has notable examples of their own), I don't see how someone fighting for ending, or at least calling out, racism can be so flippant about the death penalty. Other episodes annoyed the bajeezus out of me, but that one made me feel bad.

Ah yeah, that was the one.

Wilmore was, for lack of a better word, "bloodthirsty" when it came to the death penalty, and the way they all treated Wagner was ridiculous. And then they replaced her with a random audience member.

That was insane.

For what it's worth, that's a totally misleading and inaccurate notion. It's not about the amount of hours, it's about efficient, productive, and mindful practice. See also: http://www.vox.com/2014/7/7/5877035/life-isnt-fair-the-people-who-practice-the-most-arent-the-most
