It's so easy to have one screw up.

We had our medic ask one of our soldiers how to do a function check while on camp. The soldier took it and said, "you hold down the trigger" and fired a round into the ground. It ricocheted and skimmed the medics cheek on the way up.

Lots went wrong for that to happen. Weapon should not have been loaded on camp, soldier should have cleared it again. He got lucky that time.

Lots of bad stories from 2003-2006 timeframe when our equipment sucked and the ROE was pretty much anything goes.

SAW or M4?

I saved one of my soldiers from an AR-15 once with the saw.

It was old and the slide or sear (s?) was burred. He charged it back but not all the way. Instead of locking back and making the safety usable it just caught in place. One bump and the pin shot forward and fired a blank.
