Do you have any advice for using sniffing as a reward for a dog who is not food, toy, or praise motivated?

Is that basically like using classical conditioning by pairing food or praise with sniffing? Thats so genius, thank you! Is that building food or praise drive at that point (to eventually become primary reinforcers) or does it just make those 2 reward types secondary reinforcers?
