Have you had much chance to play around with Logic Pro X? I've just got it, and as finicky it can be for me at times (when I'm lazy and don't have a keyboard nearby using the capslock keyboard was nice in 9...). I haven't tried out the sampled instruments yet, so I was wondering if you had played around with them yet?

Hi Kevin thank you so much for doing this AMA, as a recent music graduate and composer wannabe your Software FAQ was so useful when looking to start getting my first pieces of software! Hearing your music such as Jaunty Gumption really makes me want to work hard and write some cool and interesting music.

Just a couple of questions I hope you can answer to learn from a composer and maybe give me some drive on some songs I'm working on (for job applications and what not).

  1. How do you decide what kind of style of music you want to do when you come to composing? Do you have a set idea when you sit down at the keyboard/computer/pen and quill that you have already had been working on or do you just write and see what comes out of it.

  2. How can I discipline myself to spend more time working on music? I spend a lot of time listening to classical music to understand the orchestra and I read and watch a lot to learn from others but I get so nervous to try and write it out.

  3. How do you deal with lots of instruments? I see an orchestral score and as someone who came from a popular music background it sort of terrifies me. Should I just ease myself in instead?

Thank you so much for your time and for doing this AMA.
