Just want to give everyone a heads up that Dr. Merzenich is leading the design of BrainHQ, as is stated on their website: https://www.brainhq.com/

I'm not implying or stating that Dr. Merzenich is advertising or promoting BrainHQ, just saying that it's worth mentioning that he is directly involved with it, and for whatever reason didn't state it in the above reply. My personal opinion is that he likely wanted to mention he is involved, but for whatever reason did not.

I believe he's low-key referring to BrainHQ, a brain-training company that Dr. Merzenich is leading the design of. There's a comment here from this thread where he describes it vs. other brain training companies.

I deeply believe in the moral imperative of translating research into real population-wide benefits as well. Research, at its core, is meant to benefit humanity, and the only sustainable way to get the application of knowledge into the hands of people is through a business model, or the government, and we all know how difficult it is to get money from the latter. Thank you for everything you do Dr. Merzenich! We may all deserve to be treated as equals, but we are definitely not born with, nor born into equal opportunity. If only all academics had the moral strength you do, we wouldn't need to be so careful about commercializing research and helping struggling people.
