I think they don't really care to be honest.

If I understood correctly, how North to South Korea immigration works, it's similar to how East to West Germany immigration worked. Since none of the states recognized each other, the citizens from the other side sre just considered citizens who didn't claim their citizenship yet. So they get granted citizenship by giving up their own old "illegal" citizenship ( would thin that includes the destruction of old passport etc. To make returning harder in case they were spies)

Canada doesn't have to/want to grant him asylum since his passports proves, he isn't part of a country anymore, where he would have to fear prosecution/death for his political/religious motives, and since he didn't (I guess) bring particular skills with him, a Canadian didn't / couldn't have (in the eyes of the Canadian government), they declined his application.

Largely speculation though from what I know from the west/east German thing in school and trying to apply to the north/south Korea situation, which is, at least concerning immigration from one state to another, similar, so please correct me if I got something blatantly wrong.

Give it time with the friendliness. :)

You seem to be in a suburb from Hamburg (judging from the pictures, correct me if I'm wrong), so many people still have to adjust to seeing new/different faces in their direct neighborhood. At least in the suburb I live in, many people were skeptical at first on how to encounter those new neighbors, but nowadays (~1 year later) they're well integrated and many of the refugees, who got their asylum requests cleared are looking for jobs/flat etc. Specifically in our village due to the friendly and calm environment.

That said, welcome to our country, hope you're gonna have a great time here.

Edit: Read you were staying near Munich, for a while. Was thee name of the village you stayed in Höhenkirchen by chance?

Not OP, but one of my coworkers said something similar.

That the virus, the whole mask thing and our Corona tracing app are just ploys by the government (or the Green Party) to install a GDR 2.0.

So, yes that sentiments exists and she wasn't 'smart' enough to think of it itself so there are probably more. Weird stuff.

In my generation (mid 20s) the fear of the virus has subsided unfortunately so you can see many gatherings outside, but indoors(restaurant until you get to your table, supermarkets, doctor visits etc) everyone I know is still wearing their masks.

These rumours, if you want to call it so were sparked by this article

TL; DR and short translation of the article: A regional leader of the pirate party in Bavaria resigned his position due to the discovery that he was a member of the NPD (our far-right/nazi party)prior to his involvement with the pirate party and called it a mistake. He still was/is allowed to stay in the party despite his previous political "career" and received support from quite a lot of the other party members ("everyone makes mistakes in the youth", "everyone deserves a second chance" etc.). Last but not least the party failed to properly distance themselves from a far-right mindset.
