Haha about time, I used to supervise a firing range on the navy base. The cops always came down with revolvers and it was quite comical that our service pistol were designed in 1912 and yours were older!..

Do you guys still use revolvers? Or have you moved to a weapon designed this century?

How is it your officers were not qualified in offshore nav and asteral navigation? Even the most junior officers should know how to use the almanac and a sextant?

Also if they were a sisemic support vessel they would have been in proximity to the sisemic ship and could have got an exact position off the other vessel via radio. Since they were in company they should have been in regular contact anyway for end of line turns etc.

Mate a 3rd officer isn't a pro. They are usually kids that have done around 12 months to 3 years sea time. Usually with limited vessel class experience. Think of your work experience kid that's allowed to pilot the ship for a few hours a day.

The general consensus from ships officers about civilian yachtsman is the laws of physics apply. We don't really mind yachtsman so long as they understand that their tiny boat better be easy to identify, either with AIS or radar. Because if we collide, they will lose their lives probably. We will do everything we can to avoid a collision, but when we are constrained by draught or restricted in our ability to manoeuvre then you sure as shit would not want to be on my ships head.

Also just don't sail solo, I'm sick of rescuing yachtsman who can't hack an ocean crossing on their own :)
