It's not the government that stands in the way. It's medical fact. Opiates are a shit tool for chronic pain management for a number of reasons from chasing the tolerance dragon to the fact that MANY heroin users aren't horrid street trash who raped babies for a living before turning to the needle, but decent medical patients who needed opiates for pain management and just had an unfortunately susceptible brain chemistry for addiction.

Whatever it is they put in those tylenol 3 cough syrups. I wont dare touch another. A single teaspoon full was all it took to completely destroy my ego. I cannot call what I was doing being awake, but I damn sure wasn't sleeping either.

It's very telling that op didn't answer this question. And I can attest personally that Acetaminophen, when it gives me ANY pain relief at all, routinely wears off by the 4 hour mark after taking a full gram of it, where as the 4-6 hour length between 400mg doses of ibuprofen will routinely last the 4, but almost never the full 6.
