I lived in the Harbor House you're speaking off (your post history confirmed where you live pretty quick, be careful). As much as I want to complain about the experience.. I got a job, got out, and turned my life around. The problem even there was that getting a bed took time. Weeks/months. Family rooms could be even harder to come by.

But your right, she should look into shelter options, it's shitty but at least she could save money that way.

It's crazy how quick I knew where you were from though..

Look I'm a militant atheist, and I love to make people question their own faith. But maybe…maybe picking at the faith of a four-time cancer survivor is in poor taste.

Let him have this one, there is no way you don't come off as a giant asshole. Even if he needs to believe that unicorns and elves are real to get him through his day I'd say he's fucking earned the right not to be hassled about it.

I'm glad to hear it! I don't know what it is about people, especially people with disabilities, but just sitting around doing nothing saps their will to live. Working, doing something, can be one of the easiest ways to improve your quality of life.

There are agencies, workshops, places that work with people who have additional barriers to work. I've been a part of it, and I don't know how where you're at exactly, but I helped people learn to do jobs all day long. Accommodations can be made, and their are companies that make it their mission to hire people with disabilities because they can be some of the best folks on staff.

Don't give up and settle for just puttering around the house, it doesn't have to be that way if you do not want it to be. If you can use a computer this well there are plenty of places that would hire you.

To be honest I would feel fucking terrible if he really believed in elves and unicorns.

Otherwise, yeah I'll claim the slightly higher ground because I know when not to directly and repeatedly challenge and insult the 4-time cancer survivor. I won't judge his beliefs until I've walked a mile in his shoes. I can't imagine what it is like to come through that darkness, and I've been through some shit.
