ASPA authorizes the President of the United States to use "all means necessary and appropriate to bring about the release of any U.S. or allied personnel being detained or imprisoned by, on behalf of, or at the request of the International Criminal Court". This authorization has led the act to be nicknamed the "Hague Invasion Act".

There are some potential incompatibilities with the Rome statute and US constitution, but Congress pre-emptively authorising the US President to essentially commence war if any US personnel is expected to be tried by the ICC is particularly extreme.

Notwithstanding that the Rome Statute is generally more comprehensive than due process provided for by the US Constitution (with the time exception of jury trials), the US government is more than happy to ignore the Constitution when conducting extrajudicial killings of their own citizens.

Funny that you're concerned about "redditors parroting something they don't understand" when you clearly don't grasp the issues (or lack thereof) of the US ratifying the Rome Statute and are instead parroting Republican and Heritage Foundation talking points.

Oh absolutely a political statement, and quite quaint for Congress to think anyone cares about their approval to conduct military operations.

The last time the United States formally declared war, using specific terminology, on any nation was in 1942, when war was declared against Axis-allied Hungary, Bulgaria, and Romania, because President Franklin Roosevelt thought it was improper to engage in hostilities against a country without a formal declaration of war.

Unrelated but your most recent post so - you do know opioids can significantly worsen Sphincter of Oddi problems?

Scopolamine and/or tramadol are generally highly effective (although you shouldn't be taking tramadol with your opioid issues)
