We coerce people to go as a cover your ass type of thing. With my limited equipment I can’t 100% say that you aren’t internally bleeding from your car accident, or having any other number of medical emergencies, so I have to advise you to go to the hospital even when I’m pretty sure you are going to be fine.
If you want medics to come to your house or something just to “check you out”, I’m gonna most likely tell you to go to the hospital and be seen by a doctor. We’re not a mobile check up clinic. Don’t call for an ambulance if you don’t want to be talked into an ambulance ride. For what it’s worth I don’t make a dime off the bill and it’s way less work for me to leave you at home with your dizziness or whatever. Sorry if I come off as salty I’m on hour 84 or something right now.

It’s the same here. I advise them of the risks and complications up to and including death and have them sign an AMA. I hope I never have to find out in court how well that AMA protects me.
For what it’s worth I agree with you. A lot of $2K ambulance rides could be replaced with a $20 Uber but it feels unprofessional to say that to people. I do try to be honest though and just tell people what I can see, what I can’t see, lay out the options and let them make the decision. Some fire captains can be prickly about us turfing everyone and at the end of the day that’s my boss.

Obama has recently voiced his support for net neutrality. Can we count on him to veto anything congress tries to push through?
