As someone who works in child safety, we had a discussion about it at work. We actually thought it might be helpful because people have a terrible stereotype in their heads of pedophiles as dirty old men that are easy to avoid. Instead, you see someone with a veneer of youth and respectability and it makes you rethink that stereotype.

Yes, it's dumb, but the endorsement of other people makes people trust someone. Getting that turned on its head might make more parents critical of who they should trust (even though most offenders are well known to their victims).

I just wanted to say I'm absolutely thrilled about season 2 and can't wait to watch it.

Will I force my relatives to binge watch season 1 and 2 with me over the holidays? Time will tell.

Because someone with a veneer of credibility (running for an election) is appearing in the news everywhere, and some people (not just left-wingers) are afraid that normalized pedophilia. And sex crimes in general, considering his other history.

Basically, most people have a pretty strong drive to protect children. When someone comes out basically screaming "I'M REALLY DANGEROUS!," it's natural to have an emotional response.
