Hi Dane, thanks for doing this AMA.
Regarding municipal ISPs, I’m in a town of about 90,000 up in the Sacramento valley and we basically have one major provider. There has been past conversation about a municipal ISP but it hasn’t really left the ground.
What’s the best approach to municipal ISP in light of California government code section 61100(af) that says any municipal infrastructure would have to be handed over to a commercial entity if they demonstrate that they’re willing to maintain and operate it?
Theoretically my town could spend millions laying fiber in an effort to run a fairly priced and open network, and Comcast could roll up one day, tell us they want it, and we’d ostensibly have to give it to them. Can we avoid that or would that legislation have to be repealed first?
As an aside, does Sonic have any aspirations of expanding farther north in California, say to Chico and Redding?

I’m a production assistant for a CBS/NBC affiliate down in Northern California, I’m curious: what does the talent really think of PA’s?
