My dad had a lung infection when he was 10 and almost died. They took 2/3rds of one of his lungs out. He then joined the marines, ran over 100 miles a month and can hold his breath in a pool while swimming for inhuman amounts of time.

Don't be dissuaded from trying anything you want and getting good at it. Our bodies are capable of overcoming pretty serious shit. Progress, not perfection.
