As a data analyst, I think having BOTH would be useful. I constantly have to create new slave databases from our as/400 DB to restructure dirty machine data, or rebuild a report that was designed by someone with the wrong frame of reference.
Your said your code is on Github, does that mean I can program my own reports into one of your POS's? Or even dump the data into FME or COGNOS or SPLUNK or any other business intelligence framework?

You could TRY to build the next 58...but why? People will just buy a 58 if they want one. They're not very expensive.
I have this hand-held supercardoid condenser from EV that I LOVE. In my little home recording sessions it doesn't pick up my kids, pc fans, AC or anything except what it's pointed at.
I trust that mic more than a 58.

Check out www.processing.org which is a strong typed Java derivative language. It uses openGL (and possibly dx). You should also look at the PureData library for any necessary audio functions. I'm building a guitar tuner using PureData and Fast Fourier Transformations at the moment.
