I'm currently writing my dissertation on the future of food; specifically meat. The meat industry is inefficient, harmful to the environment and does not address the unacceptably high levels of starvation. And as you say, the growing global population will only accentuate these problems. My research will explore how well people are going to be able to cope with the coming changes. How well do you think people will cope with having to eat alternative protein sources like insects, In Vitro meat (Artificially grown meat), and any other potential alternatives?

I'm sorry but it is completely daft. People turn their nose up at GM because it is 'unnatural'. I think it's far more unnatural, or at least inhumane, to let people starve because we have a moral problem with a potato that wasn't grown naturally.

Well, population growth rises exponentially; the big statistic being thrown about these days is that there will be roughly 9 Billion people on the earth by 2050. That figure will only rise. Of course alternatives like soy should certainly be looked in to. But when you have a resource like insect protein; a plentiful, healthy food that over 50% of the world already eat, it would be daft to ignore its advantages. Similarly with In vitro meat, if we can simply grow our protein without harming the environment and animals, why not? By looking in to every available protein alternative it takes pressure off the meat industry. Allowing it to continue in a safe way that does not cause harm (except to the animals themselves obviously, however I'm not talking about vegetarianism here).
