Information about the soviet union is difficult to come by, and often anecdotal.

From what you know, how accurate was Solzhenitsyn's Gulag archipelago?

People have described the story as being a fantasy and nothing close to the truth, but i'm inclined to believe that is was closer to the truth then many would believe

Do you believe that intelligence gathering and spying actually achieves anything in the end when all is said and done?

Will the entire programs actually have made a difference to any sort of outcome?

Would the cold war have ended any differently, if instead of spying, the west just sort of planned for the worst?

Sorry for the one question broken up into three, I just want to know, yes, you believe it did, or no, you believe it didn't.

Thanks
